Impaled Nazarene - Pro Patria Finlandia:
According to the Latin language, "pro patria Finlandia" loosely translates "for fatherland Finland." Ironically enough, this five-piece carnal religion-slamming band, whom hails from Oulu, Finland, has yet again sparked controversy in their own home country. Finnish journalists maintain that Impaled Nazarene promote both National Socialism and anti-patriotism - seeing as a few of their lyrical themes are war, nuclear warfare and Satanism. However, this is far from the truth, as bassist Mikael "Arkki" Arnki has stated in a particular interview; also suggesting that the band does not believe in neither God nor Satan. It's in the same sense as how bassist/vocalist Tom Araya of Slayer is Roman Catholic, yet finds it entertaining to write songs about Satan. But that is a different story.

The most interesting thing about this band's style, is that although they are black metal, they have a strong hardcore punk/crossover thrash overtone in their music. For clarification, they have very well integrated the dark, gloomy, symphonic-esque, intense, and fast guitar work heard in black metal, with the aggressive and provoking riffs heard in both the hardcore punk and crossover thrash movements. The bass is given that classic "flangy" noise, bound to rip open some faces and rattle some bowels. Whilst the guitars have a certain strength in sound behind them. Meaning, they sound an intensity that has been practically reinvented. The vocals are very black metal, and by that I mean that they are the raspy screams with that certain black metal attitude that is always unmistakable. The lyrics are often raunchy at times, and also include disturbing practices unto goats, believe it or not. This is music that is certainly profound and controversial indeed.
