Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Review):
This is just a brief review, not to detailed or anything. I wrote it quickly just a few minutes ago but I cannot post in the game review section.

What can you say about Nathan Drake? He’s young, adventurous, rendered beautifully on the PS3 and recently got his very own sequel Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Let’s get right into that shall we?

Plot: (From Wikipedia)

“Among Thieves picks up roughly two years after the events of Drake's Fortune. Similar to the previous story, Nathan Drake’s new adventure revolves around an unsolved historical mystery – this time surrounding Marco Polo and his doomed voyage home from China in 1292. After spending almost 20 years in the court of the emperor Kublai Khan, Marco Polo departed with 14 ships and over 600 passengers and crew – but when he arrived at his destination a year and a half later, only one ship remained, and only 18 of the passengers had survived. Although Marco Polo described almost every other aspect of his journeys in minute detail, he never revealed what happened to the ships that were lost.”

Reflecting:

Well after being invited along on a mission with an old pal to discover the location of the lost ships a web of betrayal, mystery, gun fights and other action movie shenanigans begin to unfold into a game that is well worth any PS3 owners time and money.

The story is good and by good I mean better than most games on the market, it keeps you interested and will get a chuckle out of you every now and then when listening to the characters interact with each other, one of my personal favorites is during the initial heist and there is a person above you. Like the last Uncharted the story and game play bring about feelings of Indiana Jones - our Indiana though is a bit younger and hasn't hidden in a refrigerator lately.

Much of the original Uncharted formula still applies here with covered fire-fights, hand-to-hand combat, exploration, climbing the walls; ceilings, signs and anything else imaginable to solving rather large scale puzzles - like manipulating a massive statue. This is really all fine and well, the gun play is fantastic making use of almost anything for cover to reload, strategize or save your butt from dying. The hand to hand combat is almost flawless, using the square button on the PS3 controller for the basis of all of your attacks and when you see your opponent has the upper hand, using triangle to counter and resume your physical assault (a bit reminiscent of Arkham Asylum). There are several “press this button to live” moments but nothing to really annoy or take away from the experience as plenty of time is given to react to the situation - even if you aren't expecting it.

Just to touch on an important game play mechanic in the game - the climbing controls seem really fluid, easily getting from one ledge to another. Traversing vines, climbing broken temple walls and the face of a wrathful deity seems to flow well and it doesn't feel awkward when getting around high above the city using only flag poles. Most of the time if you are stuck and are not sure where to go, giving the right analog stick a little nudge in various directions will cause Drake to reach out, indicating where to go next.

Graphically and sonically the game is wonderful, the lush jungle areas, temples, and cities are immaculately detailed down to the tiniest blade of grass coming from the crack in the concrete. Drake and the other character aren't to shabby themselves showing battle scars from time to time and their clothing even reflecting the terrain (wet in the water or rain, covered in snow in the mountains) - it was all done quite nicely. The background ambience, music and over all sound effects of the game are very well done - always adding excitement, suspense or fear in every part of the game. The developers really tried to immerse you into Uncharted 2 and I for one thing they did a fantastic job.

Notable Attributes:

- No Game installation!
- There are no loading screens in game!
- Great voice acting and syncing.
- Great replay value with all of the treasure and medals to find and unlock.
- Online Multiplayer (I have not done this yet).

Over all this game and a few others such as InFamous are really showing off what fun you can have with your PS3 and what caliber of games we come to expect from it.

Rating: Recommended; Purchase
